Personally i don't like Google Desktop. It tends to eat away at your amount of free ram. It keeps your cpu usage low but leaves you very little ram to play with.

Once I seen the news report about Google I never used it again Although to work there looks like fun. People play games and sports there. Now thats a job. Oh and free food. But yeah them knowing what your doing on your computer on what your searching is creepy.

When you sign up for a Gmail account, or anything google offers, take a good look at their terms of service or whatever it's called.

I have been reading this book about search call The Search. It is a great book and in there they pointed out how Google has been cooperating with U.S. government and the Chinese government behind users' backs while put out public relation stunts saying they won't. Also, Google has a history of practicing secrecy and consequently misleading (intentionally) users to favor their end goal. The author also pointed out that Yahoo and MSN do not practice one thing and does another behind users' backs like Google does. If you read this book, you will realize how Google has been tricking users to feel safe and hand over personal information at their disposal. Their "Don't be evil" slogan is a joke and it is similar to be TV evengelists. I advice to stay away from their products since there is no way under the current "Patriot Act", they can deny any access by the U.S. government. If they tell you otherwise, you know Google is lieing again. Check out the book, it is really interesting. Here is the link again: The Search.

Best,
Frank

I think for some people Google Desktop could be very useful. For most people I don't think it's useful in the slightest. I have never used it - so I might be wrong - but am basing this on what I have heard of it.

There are some privacy concerns about Google services[1][2], but Google is doing a lot of work to protect peoples' privacy[3][4].
Also, consider that Google is a company that relies on its userbase. If it were intentionally violating its privacy policies (if you are concerned about what they can do, look at the privacy policy), it would be committing corporate suicide.

Hey I think if you can make a few bucks from Google, then you should definitely do it. But I know for a fact that Google has a terrible history of preaching not to be evil while they are evil. If you read the book The Search (by the way every Amazon links that you purchase product, it will help HitCash value), you will see what this is all about. This is not just about Google dumping RH, it is about Google making money thinking the masses are dumb. Perhaps they are right or else how do they make so much money so fast?

lol.. oh, well.. then again, maybe I am just jeaslous. I will tell you the truth when RH hits billions $ in revenue.

best,
Frank

Let's go back to the day when people made an honest buck, by selling something we can use, not prying into our lives.

its kinda funny how alot of companys that gain ground do so through slight of hand(buisness practices)

take your examples about the two faces actions of google, M$ selling operating systems it didnt even have, Tucker with his cars(though that didnt end well), loads of buinesses durring the prohibition era etc...

people are fickle, but sometimes they dont know any better
